Video in the builder

Fantasma plays video in two places, and they are configured separately. The Video block is a piece of content you place like any other block. A section video background sits behind a Banner or Cards section, muted and looping, with the section's own content on top.

Both need Pro. A Free build drops the video runtime and the background markup from the ZIP, so a theme downloaded on Free never ships them.

This page is about video the builder controls. To use a video in place of a post's featured image, see Video as featured, which is a Ghost-side setting.

The Video block

Add it inside a Banner, Posts, or Post Content section, or inside a Card block.

Video URL takes a YouTube link, a Vimeo link, or a direct link to an .mp4 or .webm file. Poster sets the still image shown before playback starts; without one, Fantasma pulls YouTube's own thumbnail.

The rest is presentation. Aspect Ratio fixes the frame's shape, Frame Size and Offset set how wide it runs and how far it sits from the text around it, Rounded softens the corners, and Caption puts a line under the frame.

Autoplay starts the video muted when the block scrolls into view and pauses it when the block leaves. Loop restarts it at the end.

A video behind a section

Banner and Cards each have a Video setting under their background options. It takes the same three kinds of URL as the block.

A background video always plays muted and looping. It starts when the section scrolls into view and pauses when it leaves, so a page with several of them plays one at a time.

Two rules override that:

  • Reduced motion. A visitor whose system asks for reduced motion sees the background image fill instead. The video is never loaded for them.
  • Phones and tablets. They also get the image fill by default, to save data on a connection you are not paying for. Play on mobile turns the video on there too. The switch only appears once a video URL is set.

Set a background image alongside the video. It is what a visitor sees whenever the video does not play, and it is the first frame everyone sees while the video loads.

Download or publish

Video settings are theme changes. Download a new ZIP or publish again before expecting the live site to match the builder.
